Technologies
At West Leeming Primary School, students from Pre-Primary to Year 6 are provided with hands-on learning experiences across both Technology strands, Design and Technology and Digital Technology.
Design and Technology
Our approach to Design and Technology focuses on providing open-ended design opportunities for students, allowing them to work collaboratively, think creatively and foster creativity as they move through the design process. The design process encompasses five stages:
- Ask– What is the problem? Where do we start? What do we need?
- Imagine- How could we solve the problem?
- Plan- Create a step-by-step guide to create your solution
- Create- Hands on design and testing using materials from our dedicated Maker Space
- Improve- Reflect on what worked well and what could be improved.
Digital Technology
Digital Technology provides students with the opportunity to learn about information systems and processes and develop design and computational thinking skills. Students participate in a range of learning experiences using a wide range of resources including, Lego Mindstorms, 3D Printers, Edisons, Spheros and Bee-Bots.
Instructional technology
West Leeming Primary School is committed to providing a contemporary learning environment that utilises instructional technology to provide engaging and differentiated learning experiences for each of our students. Using iPads as part of our mixed pedagogical approach to teaching and learning allows students to develop collaboration, creativity, communication, and critical thinking skills. In Early Childhood, students have access to iPads within their classes and from Years 3-6 our students participate in a 1:1 iPad program to support their learning. More information about our BYOD and 1:1 device program, is available in the Helpful Links (Downloads) tab on our website.
